Is Cam Ward Done?

Recommended Posts

i dont think wardo is still not considered a franchise goalie based on three games. if anything this says that the canes need to go get a high-quality backup next season.

did you guys not see florida score on two breakaways. is all four goals just cam's fault? when no D men are in between him and a shooter its hard to say. cullen couldnt get back (even tho he is no D man but was at the point) and our guys couldnt get back for the other one either. hard to lay it completely on cam IMO

Defense was atrocious all year and it cost us the playoffs...

too many people to count that need to be either cut, traded, or forced to retire on our blueline...

A shorthanded goal is rarely the goalies fault.....how did it get to him in the first place????? Wards a good goalie, incredible at times but not yet a solid number one starter. The canes needed to get a veteran goalie and give Ward some time to develop and fine tune his style.

He has to stop at least one of those shots. Didn't you see both Vokoun and Anderson make countless spectacular type saves while Ward made none.

4 shots topshelf stickside

4 goals topshelf stickside

Cam has a glaring weakness and it was exposed tonight

I really do not know what game you were watching?

Anything high on Ward is a goal....especially glove side but tonight was his blocker side. He covers the low end almost perfectly but that is all he has. He needs to work on the high stuff but thats where my other post comes into effect.

Agreed. To drift too far to the short side tonight and allow a shorthanded game winner in the biggest game of the season with it all on the line is just not what a third year goalie should do. The year the Canes won the Cup, Ward was unknown. Now, everyone knows to shoot high, no matter what side.

He did make some good saves, but he has to make key saves at the right times. Late in the period of a game like this, a shorthanded goal against just cannot happen.

LET'S GO PANTHERS!! If they can come into our barn and beat us, they can go to Washington and shut them and OV down too.

LET'S GO PANTHERS!!

Gonna have plenty of time to work on it during the off season.

We've awesome forward depth, the offensive Dman we've needed for so long, and Cam. Let turn some of that forward depth into a real NHL backup goalie and a couple of good defensemen.

NO, NO, NO! Cam Ward carried this team after the all-star break.

No, Ward is a great goalie and he did win quite a few games for the team on his own but I think some are just pointing out his weakness with the high shots. He is young and can turn into a more fine tuned keeper .....he just might need some time without all the pressure on him to win.

I think we need to give some of the blame on shoddy defensive play as well

How many breakaways and 2 on 1s do you expect a goalie to save?

yes he was shaky tonight, but too many quality chances to give up

and the trade of Huet to Wash did not help matters either

Actually, if you look, he stopped thirteen shots. So he did stop something.

He needed to stop more. The offense was there, scoring 3 and shoveling 46 at the other net including 11-1 in the third. He's not all to blame, but he needs to be more solid than that.

well we do need a much better back up and another solid dman would be great

I think this is the core problem - how many games has Cam played in a row - something like 14 or 15? It would be a different story if he had 5-10 years under his belt, but he's still young and learning.

The guy looked tired. But has been said, this season was "lost" in the slump before the All-Star game.

You cannot blame Cam for this at all. That's absurd. He has played absolutely GREAT ever since the ASB. The team lost tonight because there was no backchecking on odd-man rushes. THEY HAD TOO MANY BREAKDOWNS AND THE PANTHERS CAPITALIZED. Cam has never been good at stopping breakaways and the team knows this. The team, despite knowing this, gave up all those odd-man rushes in the most important game of the year.

Don't blame Cam. Blame the crappy .380ish hockey team that was playing from November to January.
