LaCouture?

Recommended Posts

According to TSN, we placed Dan LaCouture on waivers. See the link here: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?fid=11009''>http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?fid=11009' target="_blank">http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?fid=11009[/post]

Is this because Walker is coming back (potentially tomorrow night) and we need to create a roster spot?

Im guessing it is because of Walker returning. Too bad they couldnt just send him down.

He was signed to a 2-way deal. So they could have just sent him down. His playing time had diminished, with the emergence of Helminen and now Pat Dwyer.

Perhaps JR felt that LaCouture would be better off being picked up by someone else, rather than playing in our system, which by my assumption, was that he wasn't playing as well as once thought.

What the??? Why?? Give him some ice time and he could of produced. He has 1 more goal than a few other players I will not name.

I saw him after the Edmonton game (had a picture made with him) and congratulated him on making the team - that he deserved it...sheeesh...

If he clears, which I'd assume he will, wouldnt he just go to Albany where we could re-call him anyway?

then why kill his confidence by waiving him?

Well it would be nice to know what type of waiver... I just looked at the rule book and Article 13 has 12 pages on the topic... My head hurts.

Obviously coach had no love for this guy. No matter how well he played in his 4 minutes per game......he did not impress the coaches.

Yeah...now that's a reliable source.... ;)

Forslund has a good write-up on the situation....sounds good to me. Maybe some AHL icetime will do Dan some good:

Like Dmonk said a 2-way contract doesn't determine whether you are waived or not. Its all based on the number of NHL games you have played and age. Lacouture meets both criteria, hence why he has to hit the waiver wire first. I doubt he gets claimed, I'd be very surprised and will eat crow if he is.

I was reminded that Dwyer makes a good option on the PK. Which I remember he did get good minutes on the PK yesterday. He's faster and has more skill.

I'm sure he impressed the coaches more in that one game than LaCouture has in these 11. Frankly he impressed me alot yesterday. He played for Albany Friday and Saturday night. Flew all day Sunday and had approx 15 mins of ice time and didn't look out of place once.

This year's Jeff Hamiton........waivers, up and down, and then over and out.

better and worse.

Better, 'cause he is only signed for one year deal and we won't have to buy him out.

Worse, 'cause Jeff Hamilton had superb slapshot and was our best guy on shootout.

Not too happy to see Cooter go. He's playing the same minutes as Eaves at half the price, and fills a decent middleweight role. Guess room has to be made for Sutter and Walker, and Helminen has looked good.

It's been mentioned like zillions of times. Two way contract has nothing to do with waivers. Once player reach certain number of NHL games or some other set of rules (http://www.nhlscap.com/waivers.htm) it doesn't matter whether you have one or two way contract.

Will you guys ever learn? B)

And I have told you a million times not to exaggerate, Will you never learn???

I learned alot about two way contracts a couple of years ago when we had a young Russian kid here and he got sent down to our AHL team and it was just like Waivers in that he just went to another hockey team to play for a while. Can't remember the kids name though... Wonder where he is now???

I kid, I kid.... SARCASM ALERT!!!!!

I didn't think Dan has looked bad at all compared to what he gets paid but with the way Dwight and Pat played it's only fair they get their shot too.

Man, your sure a lot nicer to people on your other board. Looks like not everyone there has learned it either ;)

wrong. Two ways contracts have nothing to do with waiver system. Lacouture is on a two way contract and he is subject to waivers.

Yes, it's based on a combination of age and number of games played. Being that LaCouture is over 30, and has several hundred NHL games under his belt, it's not surprising that he must clear waivers before being sent down. And if they bring him back up, he will also have to clear re-entry waivers as well.

Yes this is true, but if we have injuries/illness and need our AHL players doesn't the NHL allow players not have to clear waivers as an emergency need? I believe (not 100% sure) we were able to do this last season with our flu & injury epidemic. Basically if we have more injuries (and we will) won't we be able to recall LaCouture (or any Rat) without clearing waivers?

^Yes, you can bring players up without them having to go through re-entry waivers on an emergency basis, ie injuries

Forslund was on XM this morning and he shed some more light on this. He said that Helminen wasn't going anywhere. Dwyer kills penalties, so Lavi wants to keep him here for now. It came down to Brookbank and LaCouture. Brookbank has the one way contract so he would be getting paid NHL money down in Albany, where LaCouture would not. Forslund also said that Brookbank is paid to do a certain job, and the org feels he's doing that.

I guess his job is to sit on the bench and stick his tongue out at the opponents.

Forgot to add that Forslund said LaCouture would be back with the Canes at some point this season.

I would think that placing him on aivers could be a more mutual thing. It would be good if a team picked him up as maybe he will get more ice time. If he clears waivers playign in Albany is better than being bought out and not playing at all.
