2008-09 Injuries

Recommended Posts

I would like to get people's opinion on the issue of players being hurt.

When should the team "part ways" with a player based on how much time they lose to injury? I know some people just have a run of bad luck and others just can not stay healthy for one reason or another. I will not throw any names out as I do not want to get anyone's panties in a bunch, though we all have seem the injury reports the past few years so we all have a good idea of who is hurt often.

I know that several of the guys were skating several weeks before they were allowed to report. Does anyone else think the pre-season games came rather quickly on the heals of training camp starting? Seem to me like they had a week or two before the first pre-season games in the past?

I have thought that too. Not that these guys do not come to camp in shape...though isn't that kind fo what Training Camp is for. They started camp on a Saturday and by Wednesday played the first of 4 games in 5 days. Though the same guys were not playing in each game.

The hurried schedule just seems kind of odd.

Yep.. that fight Scotty got into was nice!! Let's hope he can stay healthy this year, he brings that much needed grit. Cullen.... is he gonna be OK?

Yes, does anyone know if Cullen is practicing? This makes me very nervous.

If I were Laviolette, I would not dress our top 6 forwards and our top 4 defensemen in either 1 of the upcoming pre-season games vs Nashville. The Predators always have a lot young guys and AHLers on their pre-season roster hoping to make the cut and those guys will hit hard, hit cheap and dirty, and drop gloves - basically anything to make the team. We don't need any 1 of our star players being hurt in a meaningless game. Remember the Blue Jackets pre-season games from a year ago? We were lucky no one got seriously hurt then...

There was a great article by Chip Alexander in today's N and O about Walker about how he defends his team. When they showed him wincing on the Jumbotron when he was in the box we knew it was his hand. I have to say I was not one of his biggest fans at first. But seeing him stand up for his teammates the way he does is pretty impressive.

Though I do think we need to get our best team out on the ice at this point. I'd rather not waste the first few games of the season to build the confidence these guys need in each other. That being said if there is even any question a guy is not ready to go then I say do not put them out there.

Yeah but how long are they all out for they should be fine for next week right on the 10th? Because Brindy is back and plus yesterday they skated all of them with the team like Whitney, Cullen, Pitkanen, Corvo, and Wallin.

I was watching the Jumbotron feed on the computer and all I could think about when Scotty was fighting was the guy he was punching had a visor on his helmet. I saw him wincing in the box and immediately knew why.

According to the roster for tonights game Cullen Gleason and Babchuk are back. Hopefully thats good news. Brind'amour skating at practice is a good sign as well.

I also read somewhere (I think in the blog) that Whitney practiced as well.. Ruutu is the only one right now who didn't practice yesterday. Things are looking better! (fingers crossed!)
